Programme’s Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Health and Biomedical Analytics is a multidisciplinary programme integrating biomedical science, health science, and health information technology. It focuses on advanced research, modern health and biomedical data analytics, big data management, health data mining, artificial intelligence, and innovation to generate knowledge and address complex health problems at individual, community, and societal levels.

Grounded in constructivism, problem-based learning, and outcome-based education, the programme enables learners from diverse professional backgrounds to develop critical thinking, interpret empirical evidence, integrate relevant disciplines, and systematically design research, innovations, and health solutions.

The programme aims to produce academically excellent graduates with twenty-first-century skills and leadership in research and innovation. Graduates uphold ethical standards and research integrity, collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural settings, and apply knowledge to improve health systems, policies, and biomedical innovations, thereby enhancing quality of life and supporting sustainable societal development.

 

Programme’s Objectives

PEO1: To produce graduates with advanced knowledge and expertise in health and biomedical analytics who can integrate multidisciplinary knowledge to generate new insights or knowledge for addressing complex health problems while upholding academic integrity and ethics. (Aligned with PLO1, PLO3, and PLO5)
PEO2: To develop graduates’ ability to analyse, evaluate, and synthesise empirical evidence from health and biomedical data systems and apply the findings to planning, decision-making, and identifying significant trends in health systems and public health policy. (Aligned with PLO2)
PEO3: To equip graduates to design research, innovations, technologies, or artificial intelligence systems in health and biomedicine to prevent or address high-impact health problems, with practical applications in workplaces and healthcare organisations. (Aligned with PLO3 and PLO6)
PEO4: To develop graduates as lifelong learners who can collaborate effectively in multicultural societies, communicate and disseminate health and biomedical knowledge, and lead changes that create value for society. (Aligned with PLO4 and PLO6)

It equips learners to conduct advanced health data analyses, systematically generate new knowledge, design research, develop analytical models, and create practical innovations.

1. Health Innovator – Develops health innovations, diagnostic kits, health products, digital health technologies, and healthcare AI for government agencies, private companies, innovation centres, hospitals, health technology organisations, or digital health start-ups.
2. Health and Biomedical Analytics Researcher – Conducts research, advanced data analysis, and knowledge generation to support health systems, precision medicine, and biomedicine in research institutes, universities, hospitals, or international organisations.
3. University Lecturer or Academic Scholar – Teaches and conducts research in health data science, biomedical science, biostatistics, medical data science, or health and biomedical analytics.
